Scientific work

Sci­en­tif­ic research in the Botan­i­cal Gar­den is car­ried out in accor­dance with for­mu­lat­ed tasks in the fol­low­ing areas: preser­va­tion of the gene pool of plants of the nat­ur­al and cul­tur­al flo­ra of the Botan­i­cal Gar­den, main­tain­ing the main sus­tain­able core of the col­lec­tion that has been devel­oped over many years of its exis­tence; replen­ish­ment of col­lec­tion funds of woody and herba­ceous plants: enrich­ment of the col­lec­tion with rare, endem­ic species, species of spe­cial botan­i­cal inter­est;  enrol­ment of eco­nom­i­cal­ly promis­ing dec­o­ra­tive forms and cul­ti­vars,;  re-test­ing of species cul­ti­vat­ed ear­li­er, but dropped out for var­i­ous rea­sons;  iden­ti­fi­ca­tion of poten­tial­ly inva­sive species;  the cre­ation of spe­cial­ized col­lec­tions, expo­si­tions, exper­i­men­tal sites, nurs­eries, herbaria; the for­ma­tion of col­lec­tion sites accord­ing to gener­ic com­plex­es, eco­log­i­cal and geo­graph­i­cal, gar­den­ing and dec­o­ra­tive prin­ci­ples;  improve­ment of the den­dro­log­i­cal gar­dens dis­plays of and the entrance zone;  plants col­lect­ing in nature, orga­niz­ing expe­di­tions and par­tic­i­pat­ing in the expe­di­tions of oth­er insti­tu­tions for the pur­pose of study­ing and mobi­liz­ing plant resources;  the cre­ation of a seed bank, the exchange of seeds and liv­ing plants with var­i­ous insti­tu­tions and orga­ni­za­tions, both domes­ti­cal­ly and abroad, for the enrich­ment of plant col­lec­tions, the dis­tri­b­u­tion of rare and endan­gered species, the pub­li­ca­tion of Dilec­tus;  intro­duc­tion, pri­ma­ry cul­ti­va­tion, and repro­duc­tion of new eco­nom­i­cal­ly valu­able plants of nat­ur­al flo­ra and intro­duced plants for their wide­spread use in cul­ture;  doc­u­men­ta­tion of the col­lec­tion funds, cre­ation of infor­ma­tion data banks on the col­lec­tion funds of plants on paper and elec­tron­ic media, main­te­nance of sys­tem­at­ic cat­a­logues of all and every species, inven­to­ry jour­nals, etc.
