Scientific work
Scientific research in the Botanical Garden is carried out in accordance with formulated tasks in the following areas: preservation of the gene pool of plants of the natural and cultural flora of the Botanical Garden, maintaining the main sustainable core of the collection that has been developed over many years of its existence; replenishment of collection funds of woody and herbaceous plants: enrichment of the collection with rare, endemic species, species of special botanical interest; enrolment of economically promising decorative forms and cultivars,; re-testing of species cultivated earlier, but dropped out for various reasons; identification of potentially invasive species; the creation of specialized collections, expositions, experimental sites, nurseries, herbaria; the formation of collection sites according to generic complexes, ecological and geographical, gardening and decorative principles; improvement of the dendrological gardens displays of and the entrance zone; plants collecting in nature, organizing expeditions and participating in the expeditions of other institutions for the purpose of studying and mobilizing plant resources; the creation of a seed bank, the exchange of seeds and living plants with various institutions and organizations, both domestically and abroad, for the enrichment of plant collections, the distribution of rare and endangered species, the publication of Dilectus; introduction, primary cultivation, and reproduction of new economically valuable plants of natural flora and introduced plants for their widespread use in culture; documentation of the collection funds, creation of information data banks on the collection funds of plants on paper and electronic media, maintenance of systematic catalogues of all and every species, inventory journals, etc.
