History
1924–1929 — origin of the formal forest economic education in the Leningrad Forest Institute. 1930–1941 — establishment of the first in the country forest economic faculty. 1932 — creation of the Department of Economics and Organization of Woodworking, Paper and Wood Chemical Industries (Head is Prof. S.A. Gorelik). 1943 — creation of the Department of Economics and Planning of Forest Industry and Forestry (Head is Prof. I.S. Prokhorchuk). 1949 — Department of Economics and Organization of Forest Industry (Head Prof. I.S. Prokhorchuk). 1956–1965, 1966–1983 — Department of Economics and Organization of Forest Industry (Head is Prof. B.S. Petrov). Mid-80’s. — Department of Scientific Organization of Labor and Management (Head Prof. L.B. Ivanov). Merger of two departments (Department Scientific Organization of Labor and Management and Department of Economics and Organization of the Forest Industry) in one Department of Management in Forest Sector (Head Prof. L.B. Ivanov). Until 1998 — Department of Management in the Forest Sector (Head is Prof. L.B. Ivanov until 1996). 1998 — Department of Production Management (Head Prof. A.N. Chubinsky). 2000 — Department of Economics and Management of Wood Processing Industries (Head Prof. A.N. Chubinsky). 2008–2015 — Department of Economics and Management of Wood Processing Industries (Head of the Department Prof. AI Korablev). Currently, the department is administering study direction 38.03.02 “Management”, profile “Production management at woodworking enterprises”. The department carries out economic training for students of the Institute of Chemical Processing of Tree Biomass and Technosphere Safety, the Institute of Landscape Architecture, Construction and Wood Processing. The Department also leads training courses on continuous education at the Interindustry Institute on Advanced Education.

Science
Faculty staff of the department conduct teaching, methodological and scientific research activities. Employees of the department take part in the international scientific projects and programs. Reports and presentations are made at numerous international conferences and in universities, such as Maastricht (Holland), Umea (Sweden), Helsinki and Joensuu (Finland) etc.
