History of the Journal
«Известия Санкт-Петербургской лесотехнической академии» was published first time in 1886 as a «Yearbook of the Saint-Petersburg Forest Institute». It consisted of two chapters: «Official chapter» and «Unofficial chapter». «Official chapter» provided reports, number and character of students and other information regarding the situation in the Saint-Petersburg Forest Institute. Scientific papers of lecturers and students of the Institute were published in the «Unofficial chapter». Traditional structure of the issue has been remaining till nowadays and includes both current University news and scientific papers listed by the topic (with summary in Russian and in English).
Throughout its history «Известия Санкт-Петербургской лесотехнической академии» has changed its name several times.

Since 1973 the Academy began to publish thematic inter-university proceedings rather than journal, including sometimes several issues per year. At the same time, the names of the thematic proceedings were often specified and changed in comparison with the first issues. Here are the names of some of them: «Forestry, Forest Crops and Soil Science«; «Forest Protection«, No. 5 — «Ecology and Forest Protection»; «Issues of Cutting, Reliability and Durability of Woodworking Tools and Machines», and since Issue 7 (1980) – «Woodworking Machines, Tools and Issues of Wood Cutting».
From 1993 – Известия Санкт-Петербургской Лесотехнической Академии.

Current
At present the journal «Известия Санкт-Петербургской лесотехнической академии» (parallel title in English «Izvestia Sankt-Peterburgskoj lesotehniceskoj akademii») – is a scientific peer-reviewed periodical for works devoted to various areas of forestry: forest science, forest management, forest protection, forest engineering, mechanical and chemical wood processing, forest economy and issues of higher education in forestry. The «Izvestia Sankt-Peterburgskoj lesotehniceskoj akademii» publishes original and review articles, materials about patents and implementation in production of completed scientific works, articles about the problems of higher forestry education, history of forestry, forestry, woodworking and pulp and paper industries.
The journal is intended for employees of the forestry complex, professors, researchers, graduate students, students of forestry universities, research institutes of forestry profile and graduates of the university. We hope that every reader will find here articles of their own interest.

Editorial Policy
The journal «Izvestia Sankt-Peterburgskoj lesotehniceskoj akademii» is intended for forestry workers, teachers, postgraduates, students and graduates of forestry, agricultural and general biological universities, employees of research institutes of forestry profile. The collection has a thematic focus in the field of forestry and has several objectives:
— Provides an opportunity for scientists to publish the results of their research,
— Draws attention to the most relevant, promising and interesting areas,
— Provides a public platform for exchange of views between researchers from different regions and countries.

The main points of the editorial policy of the journal are thorough preparation for publication, reviewing and editing of the materials submitted to the journal, which are performed by scientists and specialists. All papers submitted to the editorial board of the journal undergo a rigorous reviewing procedure.

The Editorial Board reviews and edits all incoming manuscripts in accordance with the requirements for the publication of scientific articles. On the basis of at least two reviews, the Editorial Board may accept the article for publication, recommend the author to revise it or reject it. If the review of the article contains a reference to the need for revision by the author, the Editorial Board sends the article to the author for revision. If the review is negative, the article can be sent for additional review by the decision of the editorial board. If there is a disagreement among the members of the editorial board about the publication of the article, it is resolved at a meeting of the editorial board by a simple majority of votes. If the number of votes is equal, the vote of the chief editor is decisive. According to the results of the meeting of the editorial board, the executive secretary prepares the next issue of the journal.

The author, who submits an article to the journal, thereby expresses his consent to its publication, placement in restricted access on the website of the publication on the Internet, the transfer of the text of the article (including references, bibliographic information, etc.) to organizations, the provision of this information is mandatory. The authors are responsible for the facts given in the papers, the accuracy of citations, references to legislation, names, etc.

The materials published in the journal reflect the personal views of the authors, which may differ from the views of the Editorial Board.

Materials published earlier or submitted to several journals will not be accepted for publication. The editorial board only considers original articles that have not been published elsewhere and are not intended for simultaneous publication in other journals.

Works prepared individually by graduate students or applicants are considered if there is a positive review of the scientific supervisor.
|
The agreement on granting the right to use the work is concluded verbally (with all authors signing an application to the editorial board with a request to accept the article) and is gratuitous, i.e. the authors, including graduate students, are not charged for the publication of articles, no royalties are paid.

The editorial board may reject materials that are improperly prepared or irrelevant to the publication’s profile. The Editorial Board does not enter into a discussion with the authors of rejected materials. The Editorial Board reserves the right to make cuts and editorial changes to the manuscript. Manuscripts are not returned.

Reprinting, posting or distribution of materials published and/or posted on the University website of the Journal without the prior written consent of the Editorial Board is not allowed. Violation of the exclusive rights of the Editorial Board to use the materials transmitted for publication and processed by the editorial board is punishable by law.
