History of the Journal

«Известия Санкт-Петербургской лесотехнической академии» was published first time in 1886 as a «Yearbook of the Saint-Petersburg Forest Institute». It consisted of two chapters: «Official chapter» and «Unofficial chapter». «Official chapter» provided reports, number and character of students and other information regarding the situation in the Saint-Petersburg Forest Institute. Scientific papers of lecturers and students of the Institute were published in the «Unofficial chapter». Traditional structure of the issue has been remaining till nowadays and includes both current University news and scientific papers listed by the topic (with summary in Russian and in English).

Throughout its history «Известия Санкт-Петербургской лесотехнической академии» has changed its name several times.

At the same time, the names of the thematic proceedings were often specified and changed in comparison with the first issues. Here are the names of some of them: «Forestry, Forest Crops and Soil Science«; «Forest Protection«, No. 5 — «Ecology and Forest Protection»; «Issues of Cutting, Reliability and Durability of Woodworking Tools and Machines», and since Issue 7 (1980) – «Woodworking Machines, Tools and Issues of Wood Cutting».

Editorial Policy

The journal «Izvestia Sankt-Peterburgskoj lesotehniceskoj akademii» is intended for forestry workers, teachers, postgraduates, students and graduates of forestry, agricultural and general biological universities, employees of research institutes of forestry profile. The collection has a thematic focus in the field of forestry and has several objectives:
— Provides an opportunity for scientists to publish the results of their research,
— Draws attention to the most relevant, promising and interesting areas,
— Provides a public platform for exchange of views between researchers from different regions and countries.

The main points of the editorial policy of the journal are thorough preparation for publication, reviewing and editing of the materials submitted to the journal, which are performed by scientists and specialists. All papers submitted to the editorial board of the journal undergo a rigorous reviewing procedure.

The Editorial Board reviews and edits all incoming manuscripts in accordance with the requirements for the publication of scientific articles. On the basis of at least two reviews, the Editorial Board may accept the article for publication, recommend the author to revise it or reject it. If the review of the article contains a reference to the need for revision by the author, the Editorial Board sends the article to the author for revision. If the review is negative, the article can be sent for additional review by the decision of the editorial board. If there is a disagreement among the members of the editorial board about the publication of the article, it is resolved at a meeting of the editorial board by a simple majority of votes. If the number of votes is equal, the vote of the chief editor is decisive. According to the results of the meeting of the editorial board, the executive secretary prepares the next issue of the journal.

The author, who submits an article to the journal, thereby expresses his consent to its publication, placement in restricted access on the website of the publication on the Internet, the transfer of the text of the article (including references, bibliographic information, etc.) to organizations, the provision of this information is mandatory. The authors are responsible for the facts given in the papers, the accuracy of citations, references to legislation, names, etc.

The materials published in the journal reflect the personal views of the authors, which may differ from the views of the Editorial Board.

Materials published earlier or submitted to several journals will not be accepted for publication. The editorial board only considers original articles that have not been published elsewhere and are not intended for simultaneous publication in other journals.

Works prepared individually by graduate students or applicants are considered if there is a positive review of the scientific supervisor.

The agreement on granting the right to use the work is concluded verbally (with all authors signing an application to the editorial board with a request to accept the article) and is gratuitous, i.e. the authors, including graduate students, are not charged for the publication of articles, no royalties are paid.

The editorial board may reject materials that are improperly prepared or irrelevant to the publication’s profile. The Editorial Board does not enter into a discussion with the authors of rejected materials. The Editorial Board reserves the right to make cuts and editorial changes to the manuscript. Manuscripts are not returned.

Reprinting, posting or distribution of materials published and/or posted on the University website of the Journal without the prior written consent of the Editorial Board is not allowed. Violation of the exclusive rights of the Editorial Board to use the materials transmitted for publication and processed by the editorial board is punishable by law.

Publication Ethics

The publication ethics of the scientific journal «Izvestia Sankt-Peterburgskoj lesotehniceskoj akademii» is based on the Civil Code of the Russian Federation (Part Four) and on the provisions developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics – COPE):

Authors (or a group of authors) when submitting materials to the scientific journal «Izvestia Sankt-Peterburgskoj lesotehniceskoj akademii» are aware that they are initially responsible for the novelty and reliability of the results of scientific research.

Manuscripts are accepted for consideration if the article and its key conclusions have not been sent to other publishers for publication, have not been published and will not appear in print or on the Internet before appearing in the journal.

The Editorial Board should assist authors in improving manuscripts submitted to the Editorial Board through scientific reviewing and literary editing of articles and, if necessary, assist in establishing contacts with other journals and publishers.

The editorial staff is obliged to treat the authors with respect, to conduct a conversation with them only in a benevolent tone, and to use correct phrases in correspondence.

Editorial staff must not disclose information about the submitted manuscript to anyone else, except the author, reviewers and members of the editorial board.

It is not allowed to inform anyone except the author and the editorial board about the content of a negative review of an author’s work.

Confidential information received in the process of correspondence with the author and/or reviewers is not subject to disclosure.

When an ethical complaint is filed or when a conflict situation is identified regarding a submitted manuscript or a published article, the editorial board makes every effort to resolve the disputed problem in the manner prescribed by law.

Information or ideas obtained in the course of editing and reviewing and related to possible benefits must be kept confidential and not used for personal gain.

If material containing significant inaccuracies has been published, it should be promptly corrected in a form accessible to readers and indexing systems with the publication of an editorial notice of correction or withdrawal of the article.

For Authors

General recommendations

In order to speed up the process of publishing your articles, to increase your Hirsch index and the publication activity of your organization, we ask authors to follow the following rules:
— send a carefully checked article to the editorial board, since grammatical errors, design flaws, poor quality of the translation and typos slow down the process of preparing the article for publication;
— if the article was returned for revision, carefully revise your material and send it again to the editorial board no later than 4 weeks after receiving the article.

Allowable languages: Russian, English, German.

Organization name should be given according to the organization’s Statute
Otherwise, the article will be difficult to link with your personal profile and your organization in the RSCI.
In the case of affiliations with several organizations the information about them should be separated by a semicolon.

Authors are not charged for the publication of the article

Articles are accepted throughout the year and are scheduled for publication.

Please note that all materials received by the Editorial Board will not be returned to the authors.

Authors are sent a paper prepared for publication for approval, on the basis of which they prepare a list of corrections with page, paragraph and line numbers (only minimal edits are allowed). Corrections are accepted by e‑mail or directly in the editorial office within three days of receipt of the electronic version by the author.
