His­to­ry

The Depart­ment of eco­nom­ic the­o­ry and account­ing was arranged in ear­ly 2017 after the merg­er of two depart­ments — eco­nom­ic the­o­ry and the depart­ment of account­ing and audit­ing. The teach­ing of polit­i­cal econ­o­my at the For­est Insti­tute began in 1880. After the Rev­o­lu­tion of 1917 fol­lowed by the civ­il war (end­ed in 1924), the Forestry Insti­tute orga­nized a uni­fied Depart­ment of social sci­ences, which con­tin­ued teach­ing of polit­i­cal econ­o­my. In 1929, after the For­est Insti­tute was reor­ga­nized in For­est Tech­ni­cal Acad­e­my, three new depart­ments have alto­geth­er appeared: (1) the Depart­ment of Lenin­ism and Par­ty his­to­ry, (2) Dialec­ti­cal and his­tor­i­cal mate­ri­al­ism and (3) Polit­i­cal econ­o­my. Asso­ciate pro­fes­sor Tul­panov Sergey Ivanovich has become the first Head of the Depart­ment of polit­i­cal econ­o­my. Lat­er he became a well-known sci­en­tist, pro­fes­sor, pro-rec­tor and Head of the Depart­ment of econ­o­my of mod­ern cap­i­tal­ism at the Leningrad State Uni­ver­si­ty. Since 1948, Asso­ciate Pro­fes­sor Toporkov Alexan­der Mikhailovich head­ed the Depart­ment. Since 1968, Asso­ciate Pro­fes­sor (then Pro­fes­sor) Ana­toly Sibiry­ov chaired the Depart­ment. Lat­er he chaired the Depart­ment of Polit­i­cal Econ­o­my at the Leningrad High­er Par­ty School (cur­rent North­west Acad­e­my of Pub­lic Ser­vice). Since 1976, Pro­fes­sor Voronin Sergey Vasi­lye­vich took up the depart­men­tal lead­er­ship. In his last years he has become a Pro­fes­sor of Saint Peters­burg State Uni­ver­si­ty. Since 1998, Asso­ciate Pro­fes­sor Gryaznov Sergey Efi­movich led the Depart­ment for 10 years. From 2008 to 2017 the depart­ment was head­ed by Pro­fes­sor Labudin Alexan­der Vasilyevich.

The Depart­ment of Account­ing and Audit, as a struc­tur­al unit, was estab­lished in the For­est Acad­e­my in 1982. In 1987, the first grad­u­a­tion of spe­cial­ists in “Account­ing, Analy­sis and Audit” took place. From 1987 to 2017, the Depart­ment of Account­ing and Audit admin­is­tered spe­cial­ty “Account­ing, Analy­sis and Audit”. In dif­fer­ent years, the num­ber of grad­u­ates in all forms of train­ing (full-time, extra-mur­al and part-time) was rang­ing between 50 and 170 peo­ple. Since ear­ly 2017, the joint Depart­ment of Eco­nom­ic The­o­ry and Account­ing is train­ing bach­e­lors, mas­ters and post-grad­u­ate stu­dents. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the depart­ment reg­u­lar­ly take part in inter­na­tion­al and domes­tic sci­en­tif­ic con­fer­ences, meet­ings and panels.

Sci­ence

The sci­en­tif­ic stud­ies of the Depart­ment of Account­ing and Audit stem from indi­vid­ual sci­en­tif­ic and pro­fes­sion­al stud­ies of the fac­ul­ty staff. The sci­en­tif­ic research of the depart­ment tra­di­tion­al­ly aims at reveal­ing the eco­nom­ic con­di­tions for func­tion­ing of mar­ket econ­o­my. Cur­rent­ly, the depart­men­tal staff work on long-term research top­ic “The study of the­o­ry and prac­tice of eco­nom­ic man­age­ment in the for­est sec­tor”. The project ulti­mate goal is to devel­op sound rec­om­men­da­tions for improv­ing man­age­ment in the for­est sector.
